Thanks for

When I was tinkering
with motors and boats as a young man in Kentucky in the 1940's,
I had no idea that someday I would be telling people about the Ray
Electric Outboard through the Internet. Back then there was no World
Wide Web, in fact there were no computers. Things sure have come
a long way since then, to include the Ray Electric Outboard.
| I
don't mind telling you that the Ray was designed and built by
the tinkerer from Kentucky, because he went through several
changes himself that qualified him for the job, including a
West Point education and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
from Carnegie Institute of Technology. However, perhaps the
best qualification was as Andrew Carnegie stated about his career,
"My heart was in the work." After retiring from the
Army in 1970, I seemed to naturally gravitate back to tinkering
and boats. One day while observing electric boats on nearby
Lake Barcroft in Virginia, I got the idea for the Ray outboard.
At the time these boats were powered by gasoline outboards that
had been converted to electric. The concept was OK, but they
were noisy and not very dependable. Looking for a better mousetrap,
in 1973 I built my first prototypes in my basement in Annandale,
Virginia. I did it all, except for some help from Dot, my late
wife. I made the patterns, the furnace to melt the aluminum,
the molds and machined the castings and other parts on a Sears
lathe. When we poured the aluminum into the molds, it was Dot's
job to hold one end of the shank. |

| Today,
an expert crew in Cape Coral, Florida manufactures the Ray
Electric Outboard in a modern facility. Though the motor has
been changed and modified over the years, reliability has
remained constant. We have manufactured motors since 1974
and there are less than 1% of our motors currently out of
service today. We feel that that speaks volumes about our
reliability.
The latest
Rays are the quietest, most reliable, easiest to operate,
and most efficient motors on the market. Speaking of efficiency,
the future of electric boats depends not only on the propulsion
system, but on the efficiency of the boat itself. This is
why Ray Electric Outboards has built two prototype boats to
demonstrate the capability of electric boats. These boats are
designed to travel 70 miles at 6 MPH on a single charge, permitting
all day activities including my favorite, electric cruising
with recharging at marinas. You'll find information on efficient
electric boats and electric cruising at Performance
Electric Boats and The Return of Electric
Boats. |
Again, thank
you for visiting our web site. I hope that you will take the time
to thoroughly explore our site. You will find that electric boating
is a hassle-free, relaxing lifestyle that countless people, such
as yourself, are discovering all over the world.
Stay
charged,

Morton Ray |
